The Story: During the 16th Century in Ireland, the British monarchy was beginning its lasting takeover of Wales and Ireland. One man, Master Albert, had seen his share of war and destruction as one of the king’s knights and retired to drinking ale and caring for the Royal horses along with his apprentice, the young Donegal. Until one day when everything changes upon the discovery that the horse, Pendyne, has disappeared from his stable. Master Albert alone understands that this is no ordinary theft of no ordinary horse, for Pendyne is the last of the king’s great battle horses. If he is lost, all will be lost. Albert and Donegal set off on the thieves trail, taking them through the countryside to encounters with friends and foes alike. Donegal is kept in the dark about their trek until Albert reveals the truth about Pendyne. And even Donegal doesn’t believe until events persuade him. They meet the ghostly Ceracas in a tavern who delivers a message prophesying their reunion with Pendyne. Almost immediately they are led to Pendyne, who was being offered for sale by two horse traders. Our heroes are captured and then separated and with the aid of Ahren, a young boy castaway on the thieves’ boat, Albert and Pendyne escape their prison. But when the boy and the horse wash up on an island beach, there is no sign of the old man. Eventually Albert and the boy and Pendyne are reunited on the island and they must find a way home. Another prophecy points them to a magic passageway that leads them to a strange place. When the King’s Black Guard appears, Albert understands they are after Pendyne, the last battle horse and they must do whatever it takes to keep them from getting him. The journey is difficult but eventually Albert returns home with Pendyne and the boy. But the home they discover is much different than the one they left. How will they adjust to it and what of Pendyne and his future – and the future of all of Ireland and Wales? The answers lie in this riveting journey of a forgotten time in history. “The Legend of Pendyne” is a wondrous story of one man’s last quest to prove that honor and loyalty are not mere words, but the deeds that bring out the best in all men. Along the lines of "Stardust", "The Lord of the Rings", "Chronicles of Narnia", and "Erragon", "The Legend of Pendyne" could very well rival all of them. Author Bio: D.A.
